Some details from last night…

Filed under: astronomy, Astrophotography, Messier Objects, Observation Journal — Tags: , , — Ed @ 12:24 pm

Well I finally went to bed last night and it was so late, I just put up some big photos. I’ve had a few minutes over lunch to get some details from the Messier objects I photographed last night. Here they are:

Andromeda Galaxy - Detail View 8/9/07
Andromeda Galaxy (M31) – Detail View

M3 8/9/07
M3 – Detail View

M13 - Detail View 8/9/07
M13 – Detail View

And okay, I’ll admit it, the title was intentionally vague. 🙂

  1. Hi Ed,
Nice shots!.Do you have any other info such as exposure time,ISO,filters, scope ect?.
Yeah, having a scope that tracks is the best isn’t it?.
Are you taking your scope out tonight as well?.

  2. I’m hoping to. The skies should be really nice, even if it is boiling hot. Each of them, I’ve tried to put info if you click on the picture with some more info about the pictures. The ISO, I believe is going to 1600 – I’m pretty sure it automatically does that – I’m still learning the camera in addition to the sky.

Speaking of learning the sky, I’m starting to think that what I thought was Andromeda might be M33 instead – the shape looks about right for it, though I’m not really sure about that. I’m hoping to get a bunch of other long exposures tonight on stuff. We’ll see. My kids have soccer in the morning (in addition to a birthday tomorrow) so I can’t stay up too late. I may just decide to go to bed early and get up in the middle of the night. I haven’t decided yet. My goal is to basically try to image something every night I get a chance and get some other folks around this area interested. It’s always nice to have someone to share an obsession with.

  3. […] Note, in the annotated version that in addition to the constellation outlines and the three brightest star names, I’ve also indicated the position of M13, which I imaged the other night. […]
