Jupiter and Four Jovian Moons

Jupiter on 9/7/07

The sky is much clearer tonight; at times I’ve had several minutes of really clear viewing. There are still some wispy clouds though and the high humidity means that things aren’t as clear as they could be. This afternoon, I decided to make a Hartmann mask from Andrew’s instructions from a previous blog comment. I’ll post more about it along with some pictures tomorrow if I have some time. It really worked well for fine focusing and allowed me to get some decent shots this evening before the camera battery conked out. This shot of Jupter and its 4 largest moons was the best single shot I got this evening. I haven’t had time to process my other images yet so maybe I’ve got something else that I’ll be able to put up tomorrow. I also replaced the batteries in my tracking motor which meant that it tracked much much better tonight than it had been recently.
