The Ring Nebula

M57-The Ring Nebula on 9/20/07

It was quite cloudy this evening, but all of a sudden around 10 the clouds started to dissapate and I was able to resume my imaging. The Ring Nebula (M57) is one of the most beautiful sights for a telescope. I had never imaged it before, but had it on my list for this evening. I pointed the scope to where I believed it should be and it seemed to jump off the screen at me. I’m still in my driveway and am having great luck with several other Messier Objects. I’ll post those in a few minutes.

Update: Here is a version using my 3X Barlow to get a bit more detail on the Nebula (note that the image below is rotated 90 degrees or so – I just inserted my camera into the focuser at a different angle):
