The Gibbous Moon

The Moon on 9/22/07

So here’s my daily moonshot. The moon is waxing gibbous tonight and should be full in a couple days. I don’t know why, but I’ve always pronounced gibbous as “gibb-y-us”. I knew that wasn’t quite right, and so I made sure to look it up before I made this post. According to various web sources, gibbous means bulging outward and that’s exactly what the moon continues to do on its way to being full.
