Comet 17P/Holmes Panorama

Comet 17P/Holmes panorama on 11/10/07

I stitched together a number of stacked images to create this larger view of the comet. It shows a bit more of the tail area as well as the stars around it. If you carefully compare the image from my previous post, you can see that in the 2 hours in between the two images that the comet moved slightly across the background stars. Of course, I’ve also rotated the picture which makes it a bit harder to see, but if you look at the bright star near the brightest part of the comet, you can see that it has moved closer to the bright area of the comet. I’ve seen (and illustrated) it move from day to day across the background stars, but it’s neat to see this in the span of just a couple hours.
