Comet 17P/Holmes on 11/11/07

Just a quick post of tonight’s comet image. My guess is that tomorrow (assuming the sky is clear) the comet will extend beyond what my camera can capture in one image. That means I’ll start having to stitch together the images in order to be able to capture the entire comet. Of course, I know that I’m not capturing the entire thing since I’ve seen higher res images from other folks with better equipment. I’m just not sure my scope is capabile of really getting the outer coma of the comet, so I’ll stick with the main thing.

One quick note: Last week was my best ever traffic-wise, even better than the lunar eclipse of August (which still has my best day at 512 visitors). I had over 900 people visit the blog. The vast majority of them have been people looking for Comet 17P/Holmes images. I know I’ve been a bit overkill on this, but with this much interest, there are obviously a good number of people who are actually interested in my obsession. šŸ™‚ It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who can’t get enough of this event. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and keep coming back – I’ll be posting this weeks comet panorama in a couple days.

  1. Overkill? No way. I love to see the images you come up with. I love how you can now see the tail. I need to find a good spot to go check it out. I remember when halebop came through I got up at 3:00 in the morning and drove up on 27 just to get a good view.

  2. Thanks, well I think my family might be getting tired of Dad being focused on making sure he gets a comet shot every single night. šŸ™‚ But really, my wife and the kids have been very interested in it and this evening a couple came out to see the images on the computer.

  3. It’s good to see that you have kept the streak alive.
